The Opportunity
The Recreation and Open Space Department is responsible for the provision and management of over 150 open spaces covering more than 300 hectares of land that is home to a broad range of parks, play spaces, street scapes and sport and recreation facilities in Maribyrnong.
We are looking for an Urban Forest Planner with suitable skills and experience who will focus on the implementation of Council's Urban Forest Strategy to support the work of the Department's Planning team.
Reporting to the Coordinator Strategy and Policy, this role is integral to leading the implementation of the Urban Forest Strategy that has a target of increasing canopy cover in the public realm to 20% by 2040 to maximise the social, environmental and economic benefits to the Maribyrnong community.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of the Urban Forest Planner will be to:
- Drive the implementation of Council's Urban Forest Strategy to increase tree canopy cover and reduce heat vulnerability, with a focus on areas of low coverage
- To ensure an integrated organisation-wide approach to achieving the aims and delivering the key outcomes of the Urban Forest Strategy.
- To actively promote the benefits of the Urban Forest Strategy to the community, to stakeholders within Council and to external organisational bodies and stakeholders.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline with several years' relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in project management, with a track record in delivering projects in an environment of complex issues and competing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to confidently address and liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders including community groups and individuals to deliver positive outcomes
- Ability to manage strategic projects, including management of external consultancies and agencies to deliver high priority outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability for creative and strategic thinking and a thorough understanding of relevant guidelines, standards and legislative requirements.
- Current Victorian Driver's Licence
- Valid Working with Children Check
- No relevant criminal record found in a police check.
