Looking for a flexible, rewarding casual role? Maribyrnong Libraries is seeking Casual Librarians and Library Specialists to join our teams across five branches: Footscray, West Footscray, Yarraville, Braybrook, and Maribyrnong. We are seeking team members who will provide welcoming, knowledgeable customer service and support the delivery of high-quality library programs and services. The role includes assisting customers with enquiries, providing reference support, and contributing to the development and delivery of programs and activities as needed.
Reporting to the Team Leader - Customer Experience, this role will work to support daily service delivery, assist with program implementation, and help create an inclusive and engaging library environment for the community.
The key responsibilities of the Librarian or Library Specialist will be to:
- Provide welcoming, knowledgeable customer, information and reader advisory in branches, online and across all services.
- Undertake administrative tasks to support day to day operations including recording statistics, collection maintenance and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for staff and visitors.
- Identify programs that respond to the needs of the community and contribute to program design and planning as required.
- Deliver library programs as required.
- Contribute to an effective Library Service through seeking and sharing accurate and relevant information, keeping up to date with emerging library trends, identifying opportunities for improvement and positively contributing to workplace culture and change.
- Provide digital and technical support, with a focus on building customer digital literacy.
- When required, assume the role of shift lead; supporting rostered staff in the prioritisation of operational tasks, issue resolution and liaising with Council staff
The incumbent of this position may be directed to carry out such duties as are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training.
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- Relevant tertiary qualification, with eligibility for associate membership to ALIA
- Demonstrated customer service experience in a library environment.
- Demonstrated experience in the development, planning, delivery and evaluation of high quality, engaging programs for targeted library audiences
- Skills and confidence using collections and online resources to support high quality reference and information services.
- Current Victorian Driver's Licence
- Valid Working with Children Check
- No relevant criminal record found in a police check.
