Looking for a flexible, rewarding casual role? Maribyrnong Libraries is seeking Casual Library Officers to join our teams across five branches: Footscray, West Footscray, Yarraville, Braybrook, and Maribyrnong. In this position, you will provide excellent frontline customer service, assist library users with a range of enquiries, and support access to digital resources and technologies.
You will also contribute to the delivery of library programs and activities, helping create welcoming spaces where people can learn, connect, and participate. Working as part of a collaborative team, you will support day-to-day library operations while helping deliver services that meet the diverse needs of our community.
The key responsibilities of the Library Officer will be to:
- Provide welcoming, knowledgeable customer, information and reader advisory in branches, online and across all services.
- Contribute to the identification of programs that respond to the needs of the community.
- Deliver library programs as required.
- Provide first line digital and technical support for customers escalating to technical staff where necessary.
- On occasion, if trained, assume the role of shift lead; supporting rostered staff in the prioritisation of operational tasks, issue resolution and liaising with Council staff and external stakeholders on time critical safety and security matters
- Contribute to an effective Library Service through seeking and sharing accurate and relevant information, identifying opportunities for improvement and positively contributing to workplace culture and change.
The incumbent of this position may be directed to carry out such duties as are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training.
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- Community focused approach to service delivery and well-developed customer service skills.
- Demonstrated ability to provide hands-on technical support with PCs, personal devices and library self-serve technology.
- Experience in the delivery of high-quality programs.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with people of all ages, all abilities and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to manage time effectively, set priorities, plan and organise own work, within the context of the library team environment.
- Knowledge of literature/popular culture and reader's advisory techniques.
