The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists to join Council's Parks and Open Space team as a Turf Maintenance Officer. In this role, you will contribute to the maintenance and presentation of high-quality sportsgrounds, reserves, and open spaces for community use.
About the Role
As a Turf Maintenance Officer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of Council's turf assets, including sportsgrounds and passive reserves. Your duties will include mowing, irrigation operation and maintenance, turf renovation, fertilising, weed and pest control, and line marking.
Working as part of a team, you will help ensure playing surfaces are safe, functional, and maintained to a high standard. The role also involves operating a range of plant and equipment while adhering to workplace health and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Undertake routine and scheduled turf maintenance activities across parks, reserves and sporting facilities, including mowing, edging, line marking, aeration, topdressing, fertilising and turf renovation works.
- Prepare and maintain high-quality playing surfaces for training, competition and special events in accordance with seasonal programs and usage requirements.
- Monitor turf health and condition, identifying pest, disease, weed and irrigation issues and implementing appropriate corrective actions.
- Assist with irrigation system operation, monitoring, minor maintenance and reporting faults for repair.
- Assist in turf renovations of sports surfaces and parks as directed.
- Apply herbicides, pesticides and fertilisers in accordance with relevant legislation, safety data sheets and environmental best practice.
- Operate, maintain and clean plant and equipment such as mowers, tractors, rollers, spreaders and hand tools in a safe and competent manner.
- Conduct pre-start checks and basic maintenance on machinery, reporting defects and ensuring equipment is fit for purpose.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will have the following:
- Certificate III in Turf Management or similar formal qualifications with substantial relevant turf management experience.
- Demonstrated experience in turf maintenance operations, including irrigation maintenance, within parks, reserves and sporting facilities.
- Current Agricultural Chemical Users Permit (ACUP).
- Current Victorian Driver's License.
- Valid Working with Children Check.
- No relevant criminal record found in a police check.
